The Story of Lucky Bums

Lucky Bums is the creation of Jeff and Julie Streeter, a husband and wife team (and former Colorado ski bums). When Julie became pregnant with their first child, friends told them they’d have to give up their backcounty pursuits.

Why? they wondered.

Determined to share their love of the outdoors with their young family, they began searching for good kids gear. It wasn’t easy. The products available were of shoddy construction or poor design. Much of what they wanted simply didn’t exist.

One day, unable to buy a decent ski training harness for his 18-month-old son, Jeff decided to make one himself. With Julie’s help, the technology executive with a chemical engineering degree soon found himself hand-sewing harnesses in his off hours.

The harness design proved to be an instant success. When ski schools began requesting them, the Lucky Bums brand was born.

Today Lucky Bums has grown from a single product to a true outdoor gear company with a growing staff, expanded facilities and year-round products for snow play, hiking, camping, fishing and hunting. Appreciated by outdoor enthusiasts around the world, our products are offered in over 1,000 stores.

We’re inspired by what research has shown over and over – that nature has an incredible effect on a person’s mental and physical well-being. All of our products are made with one vision in mind – to make it easy to enjoy the gift of nature as a family. In light of the childhood obesity epidemic, our hope is to encourage families to go outside and grow outside.
